BARBARA IN THE COMMUNITY

Serving Centre Wellington has never been about holding a title—it's about showing up, rolling up my sleeves, and working alongside others to strengthen the community I love. Long before serving in elected office, I was committed to giving back and making myself available to serve.

Over the years, I've dedicated countless volunteer hours to organizations that support families, celebrate our community, and improve the lives of others. I'm proud to have volunteered with and supported Habitat for Humanity, the Community Resource Centre, the Centre Wellington Food Bank, Groves Hub, the Centre Wellington Black Committee, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Enchanta, Food Day Canada, the Groves Hospital Foundation, the Fergus Scottish Festival, and Sensational Elora, to name just a few.

I believe community leadership means looking for opportunities to make a difference. I helped create Centre Wellington's first All Clubs' Day, bringing local service clubs together to feed more than 1,000 people in Fergus. With the support of the County of Wellington and the Fergus and Elora Legions, I also helped bring our community's first Peace Pole, sharing a message of hope and peace for all. I'm a proud member of the Fergus Legion and co-founder of Volunteers in Action (CW) Rotary, our community's newest service club.

Years of volunteer service naturally led me to public service. After serving two terms as a school board trustee, I was honoured to earn the privilege of representing Ward 3 on Township Council.

As an educator, entrepreneur, and advocate, I've learned that meaningful change doesn't happen overnight. It takes hard work, persistence, collaboration, and a willingness to listen. Working with children and families has continually reinforced my belief that strong communities are built by investing in people and creating opportunities for everyone to contribute.

Some of my most valuable conversations don't happen around the council table—they happen at community events, local businesses, volunteer activities, and while talking with neighbours throughout Ward 3. Staying connected to our community helps me better understand what matters most and advocate for practical solutions that reflect the needs of residents.

Whether supporting local agriculture, championing volunteerism, promoting mental wellness, advocating for education, or connecting residents with community resources, I strive to bring people together, build meaningful partnerships, and turn good ideas into meaningful action.

My leadership is grounded in integrity, collaboration, and a genuine commitment to serving others because I believe lasting results are achieved when people work together to create welcoming, resilient communities.
